As of June 28, 2025, the Swiss municipality of Maur, located in the canton of Zurich (Switzerland), has officially launched a new public transport solution: Mybuxi Maur, an on-demand mobility service designed to better connect the different areas of this semi-urban locality. The service is powered by Shotl, a leading provider of flexible mobility software, and becomes part of a growing network of deployments across Switzerland and Europe.
Maur, home to over 10,000 residents spread across villages such as Ebmatingen, Aesch, and Binz, faces challenges in providing high-frequency traditional public transport. Mybuxi and Shotl address this by offering a more agile DRT model, using an electric car that citizens can request via a mobile app. The system assigns the vehicle dynamically, optimizing the route based on real-time demand.
The service relies on Shotl’s technology to:
Shotl also provides the back-office control and operational support that enables Mybuxi to run efficiently and scale the service as needed during the pilot phase.
Backed by the local government and partially funded, the pilot will run until 2026. If successful, Mybuxi is expected to replace the current demand-responsive taxi system in the area.
At the launch event, citizens were invited to experience the new service for free. The Mybuxi and Shotl teams introduced the system’s benefits and answered questions in an open, community-driven setting.
With this launch, Maur joins other Swiss regions like Emmental and Toggenburg already operating Mybuxi services powered by Shotl, reinforcing a mobility model that brings efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility to the forefront. This new deployment strengthens the shared mission of both companies: to deliver smart, user-centered transport solutions where they’re needed most.
In July 2021, Shotl began collaborating with Mybuxi and Andermatt Swiss Alps to support the Alpine Mobility Association, which aims to develop sustainable mobility solutions for the Gotthard region. Shotl’s Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) system has been a key component of this initiative, complementing public transportation by offering flexible, on-demand services to residents, workers, and tourists. The system’s design continues to help reduce reliance on private vehicles, addressing environmental concerns in the region.
One of the biggest advantages of the Mybuxi network is its fully integrated service model. Once users register on the platform, they gain access to all operating regions across Switzerland using a single account. This not only simplifies the registration process but also makes public transport more accessible and consistent for all types of passengers.
Following the successful launch in Maur, Mybuxi and Shotl are already preparing the next phase of expansion. A project for a new service is started for the communities of Neuenegg and Ueberstorf, where the goal is to bring flexible, on-demand transport to communities with similar accessibility challenges. The project is set to launch operations in the fall of 2025 and will continue the mission of enhancing regional connectivity through smart, sustainable mobility solutions.
