The real mobility disruption

Putting aside fictitious and improbable ideas like a comet impact wiping out humanity in an instant, concern for the near future of the current and future generations is now palpable, not only considering the climate crisis but also the social and economic one.

What should we expect going forward? How can we act collectively to tackle the planet’s issues?

There are so many people on the planet, and it has become so difficult to coordinate, fix and overcome cultural differences and misunderstandings between diverse peoples, that, sadly, moving as one is almost impossible.

We can expect a few huge disruptive technological advances such as the development of the IA, the expansion of 5G and IoT that immediately reshape our society for good. But there will be thousands of less obvious changes in people’s behavior caused by advances in products, services, regulations and initiatives which will spread thanks to the fast information exchange tools we now enjoy. These changes will make the societal change less dramatic but equally meaningful.

All these changes combined will shape how society evolves in the years to come. Many people are working towards making these advances happen. It is no longer a matter for the public sector or NGOs. Let’s embrace as many of those endeavors as possible. By doing so, we will make the world a better place for our descendants.

Mobility-wise, big disruptions like electric and autonomous vehicles, flying taxis and greener aviation are expected, though it doesn't look as if all are completely aligned with those societal goals. However, smaller changes to the mobility model - like micromobility, MaaS, shared personal transportation, e-bikes, etc. - will also disrupt and reshape that model, albeit over years rather than months. Naturally, Shotl is among those pushing for more equal, safer and climate-conscious mobility.

At the end of the day, we are not reinventing the wheel but we are making it more efficient. We are not reinventing the internet, but we are making it more accessible for everyone. We are not reinventing capitalism and the economy, but making it circular. Similarly, we are not only reinventing the car, we are making mobility more convenient, efficient and affordable for everyone than ever before.
