In October 2019, Munich Airport rolled out its new corporate shuttle service ShuttleMe which is based on Shotl’s on-demand mobility platform. This service represents a new and improved way for employees to move between multiple spaces at the airport site.

Previously, employees had to rely on department vehicles to get to and from meetings within the airport’s grounds. This was both unsustainable and costly (as vehicles were often underutilized). By offering a shared on-demand alternative throughout the site, Munich Airport has introduced an innovative and efficient service for its employees which is provided at no additional cost.

The drivers behind the wheel of the ShuttleMe service are all former baggage handlers with health issues (due to their previous physical work). The service uses three on-demand shuttles to transport employees around the 8km² site. With operating hours from Monday to Friday; early morning until late afternoon, the shuttle covers the span of a typical working day.

The service has already been successfully adopted by employees: Within only two months the number of rides per week increased from 169 to 498, which represents an increase of +293.5 percent.

The start of this unique project proves that shared on-demand shuttles on airport sites decrease car-dependency and improve sustainability. At the same time, each shared ride is a great opportunity to meet and get to know colleagues who might even be heading to the same meeting.
